About the Documentary:
REMIX-to-RIO follows Canada’s most innovative youth outreach organization, REMIX
Project, to the toughest favelas in Rio de Janeiro as they test their revolutionary outreach
model on some of today’s most “unreachable” youth.

With likeminded organization, Soldiers Never More, as their partner, REMIX helps create a recording studio in the neighborhood known as “The Enchanted Land” (Tera Encantada).

When an unexpected relationship is forged between our REMIXers and the young people
in the neighborhoods they visit, the true weight and brutality facing the youth in Rio sets
in and the need to help is redefined.

Get some Background on The Remix Project! No 6 min video will ever be able to summarize everything about the Remix Project but this video does a pretty good job. Not to mention if you are too lazy to read the stuff below it isn’t a bad place to start.

Background on The Remix Project:
The Remix Project has been receiving awards and accolades since it’s inception in October of 2006. Running for almost three years now, the program has successfully graduated close to a 120 young people from diverse backgrounds and situations through it’s programs who have gone on to comprise the backbone of Toronto’s burgeoning urban cultural and lifestyle industries.

Despite all these successes for the young people and cultural industries of Toronto, The Remix Project itself approaches a state of crises. Nearly half of its funding came through the direction of research from National Crime Prevention Canada (NCPC). Deemed a success by NCPC and even worthy of replication in other cities around the country, they are unfortunately unable to continue to fund any project past its initial “pilot” and “research” phase.

Add to this the fact that the program’s lease is up at their current location come August 31st with no chance for renewal (the building is being torn down to make way for new condominium developments) and the need for community support for the United Nations award-winning, mayor’s community safety panel priority, life and technical skills program is major.

SCHOOLS WITHOUT BORDERS- PROMO

Schools Without Borders are an amazing youth-led organization that is mentioned a few times in the film but are not fully given the attention they deserve. SWB is really the quiet driving force behind a lot of what you see both in the film and in youth activism here in Canada and across the world.

Watch this video about their aeroplan program and then give them all your miles. Seriously.

Schools Without Borders (SWB) is a unique youth-led organization that makes education and learning more accessible for young people. We view real learning not merely as a classroom experience, but rather as a life-long journey, inspired by meaningful experiences and sustained by strong partnerships
SWB plays an integral intermediary and supportive role in grassroots community development at home and around the world. We support young people to create their own platforms for change, and build the communities they want to live in.

Actually, the film has been done for a while now but I have been so buried under a million details I haven’t been able to come up for air to tell anyone.

DVD will be dropping soon and free to all. And of course….the ON-Line release is still in the works with NFB.

Hey everybody, the Doc is shaping up nicely and I’m dying to get it out there. The second Brazil Trip was completed in December and there is only one outstanding Interview to capture. In the mean time, I put together this PROMO for the REMIX Project. They could always use funding to continue their amazing work. So spread the word (and the video).
